about

This recording of "Narcissus" was meant to be a demo but it always felt finished to me. It was perfectly imperfect. The whole song was recorded on a Tascam 424 MKIII 4-track with a single Shure SM58 microphone in three different Michigan basements. I bounced tracks to free up space to record more and eventually mixed it down to a piece of music software called Acid. My cousin Colin played the drums and our friend Jay was on the bass. It was the first complete demo that I had of a song that I had wrote. 11 years later I decided to have Tom at The Audio Cafe transfer my 4-track master cassette tape, re-mix it and do a proper master of it.

"Michigan Basement" was recorded in 2002 (in my parents' basement, of course) and was really just a sound experiment. I had just purchased a Boss Digital Reverb/Delay RV-3 and was just messing around with different settings. I thought it sounded cool and still liked it when I was digitizing all of my old 4-track recordings in 2016. It's one of the few things that survived.
